Sharp is a high-performance Node.js image library built on libvips — a battle-tested C++ engine. 4–10× faster than ImageMagick, uses far less memory.
Image formats only — not video or documents
This tool processes image files (JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, TIFF, GIF). Video, PDF, or other file types require different tools (ffmpeg for video, Pandoc for documents, etc.).
Same format → file is copied exactly
If you convert PNG→PNG without compression, the file is copied byte-for-byte. No re-encoding, no size change. This is the correct behavior.
